WHAT WE DO DESIGN From overall concept to the smallest detail, our in-house design team gives exacting direction to the development of every rug in our collections. We select yarns, looms, and production facilities that are ideally matched to the specifications of each rug we develop. Gertmenian & Sons was established in the United States in 1896, in Binghamton, New York. The company came to California in 1918. Through all these years, it has been owned by one family. The present managing partner, Peter Gertmenian, is the great grandson of the founder. He is assisted by a team of professionals who specialize in business finance, warehouse operations, information technology, product design, packaging, importing, and logistics. I started working at Gertmenian in 1996 as a warehouse employee unloading merchandise from containers. Shortly after, 2 years, I became responsible for keeping track of merchandise from each container. Today, I am a Floor Supervisor leading a team of employees to do the same along with tackling day to day warehousing projects. Every day I strive to come in a positive attitude for my team in order to achieve goals, ultimately contributing to Gertmenian’ s growth. G.A. Gertmenian & Sons was established in the United States in 1896. It has been owned by one family since then, and it is now directed by the great grandson of the founder. 1896 G. A. Gertmenian opens first showroom The first showroom in Binghamton, NY. G.A Gertmenian with his son and successor Harold on donkey. 1918 Gostantine opens shop in Pasadena, CA. Serving the local community with high quality, hand knotted rugs. 1928 Gertmenian expands distribution to Northern CA. Shipping rugs to San Francisco to open a new store of Gertmenian Oriental Rugs. It was a family enterprise. (In the center is Gostantine’s older brother Madiros. On his left is Henry Gertmenian, the designate director of San Francisco branch. On his right is Gostantine.) 1990 Gertmenian expands distribution nationally, partnering with major retailers. National retailers such as Macy’s and Home Depot were early partners, while maintaining distribution to specialty rug stores across the US. 1997 Licensed Rugs become an important part of everyday offerings. Juvenile and game rugs are introduced with brands such as Disney and Nickelodeon as well as key national lifestyle brands. 2000 Gertmenian opens first flagship NY showroom. In 2000, first flagship showroom is opened in the historic 295 5th Avenue Textile building. Later relocating to permanent space in 261 5th Avenue. 2002 Further expansion of warehouse and distribution space. Warehouse space is doubled to meet increased customer demand. 2009 Builds and opens new corporate offices and distribution center in Los Angeles, CA. Located in the historic Lincoln Heights neighborhood. 2010 Expand shipping consumer capabilities. Packed to ship from our warehouse direct to the sales floor. 2020 Present Flagship Showroom New expanded flagship New York Showroom at 261 Fifth Avenue. 2021 Warehouses expand to East Coast and Canada. To meet customer demand, operations are initiated in Savannah, GA and in Canada. 2024 Gertmenian opens its second Los Angeles area warehouse and distribution center. To meet the growing demand of our customers, Gertmenian expanded its Los Angeles operations.
